Ebonyi State government has confirmed the killing of the police by gunmen in Abakaliki Wednesday night.
In a statement made available to EverydayNews, the Ebonyi Commissioner for Information Hon Uchenna Orji however confirmed the killing of only a police Sergeant.
The statement added that “unknown gunmen driving in a Sienna Bus attacked Policemen attached to Safer Highway Patrol at Nwezenyi along Ogoja/Abakaliki Expressway.”
The statement said one Police Seargent, was shot dead and his riffle snatched.
It reports that another Police Seargent was equally critically injured while the patrol vehicle was set ablaze.
The assailants who are yet to be identified reportedly struck at about 7:30 pm.
