A carpenter has been feared dead as part of a 2-storey building under construction collapsed in Enugu on Tuesday, 9th July 2024.
The building located along Ugwunwani road off corner stone bus stop caved-in on Tuesday morning affecting the carpenters who is working in the building.
It was reported that the collapsed part of the building is a staircase which was introduced in the building.
“The carpenter who’s from Cross River State was removing the planks used in the construction when the step collapsed,” the witness said.
“We heard his shout and rushed to rescue him and removed the debris that was on him. We were able to bring him out but he was barely moving.
“He was quickly rushed to Somadina hospital at Nike Road, Abakpa Nike, Enugu. However, one of the persons that took him to the hospital said he wasn’t responding.”
The development caused a serious panic in the area as the relatives of the victim attacked the owner of the building who was also on site when the incident happened.
