The Telescope, a new column created by EverydayNews is an avenue to take on issues affecting the people.
It is a bold step by the news medium to speak the bitter truth no matter whose ox is gored.
The first Edition was a positive one which commended the time and speed with which the Enugu Government is handling the Abakpa T-Junction flyover project. That is the way it is. If anything changes, we will also shout.
For today, it is Ohanaeze and Nnamdi Kanu. And we are writing for record purposes. To put the records straight and undiluted.
Recall that the Ohanaeze had condemned the violence and killings in the South East. They particularly condemned the killing of policemen. However, at the same forum, they warned the Federal Government against the use of force.
It also suggested the use of dialogue to look at some of the issues of marginalization raised by the zone.
That was the period of the unknown gunmen and the ‘near invasion’ of the zone by the military. Laudable stand by Ohanaeze, and we all clapped.
Fast forward to Nnamdi Kanu’s arrest. Almost every Nigerian who had a voice had something to say either for or against. Even the Yoruba Nation spoke; the North spoke. But, Ohanaeze, yhebapex Igbo body did not speak. It took the Obiozor let Ohanaeze about 12 days to issue a statement. Just for the records.
Yet, in clear terms, that statement NEVER condemned Nnamdi Kanu’s arrest. Whether he was abducted, kidnapped didn’t mean much to Ohanaeze.
Ohanaeze it was not averse to his trial.
It also announced plans to set up a legal team, just to MONITOR the legal proceedings.
For keeping silent for almost two weeks, and failing to at least condemn the manner of Nnamdi Kanu’s arrest is questionable and does not go down well with EverydayNews.
The issue of legal team for is here is diversionary. Igbo’s abroad set up a legal team not to watch or monitor but to act and ensure justice.
The reason for the noted lapses is not far fetched. He who pays the Piper… dictates the tune.
