The Anambra state Police Command has arrested a masquerade who was alleged to have attached villagers in Orumba North local government area.
It was reported in a viral video that the masquerade during the festive seasons had attacked innocent citizens at Awgbu in Orumba North local government area of Anambra state.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga the actions of the masquerade was unbecoming adding that it is untraditional in the culture of the Igbo people.
“The Anambra State Police Command wishes to inform members of the public, especially Ndi Anambra and other concerned persons, that the Command has taken into custody the masquerade involved in the unprovoked and violent attacks on innocent citizens, which led to a breach of public peace in Awgbu, Orumba North Local Government Area.
“The Command notes that the behaviour of the masquerade, as seen in the viral video currently in circulation, is totally unacceptable, unlawful, and will not be tolerated under any guise.”
Ikenga announced that the said masquerade and other perpetrators of the dastardly act would be made to face the law .
“The suspect is currently in Police custody, and investigations are ongoing to ensure that all those involved are brought to justice” the statement said .
