Five months after communities in Anambra state liberated their homes from strong hold of gunmen, family members whose relatives were killed or buildings burnt are currently said to be plotting reprisal attacks on kinsmen involved in the datardly act .
Recall that eight local government areas in Anambra state since September last year had forcefully taken over their homes from the seige of gunmen, a development that has restored peace in those areas.
But in what appears to be a revenge mission most of the affected family members are said to have commenced manhunt for kinsmen who were members of the gunmen insisting that they must serve them a good dose of their medicine.
This is coming as the Anambra Police Command and the Agunechemba Security Squad have warned natives of those towns not to take the laws into their hands .
According to the Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga who spoke to this reporter, it is against the law to embark on such mission adding that they should had over suspected gunmen to the nearest police station for investigation and ultimate disciplinary actions if found guilty.
Natives of those communities in Ihiala, Nnewi South , Ogbaru , Orumba North and South local government areas claimed that they have been assembling names of kit and kin who were members of the gunmen and would be visiting their respective homes for reprisal attacks .
They claimed that they know the homes that lost three to four of their relatives to theses criminals and some pregnant women had their unborn babies ripped off with matchet and they are expect to receive them with open hands .
They insisted that they must pay for their sins against the land ,God and humanity and that is what we are set to do and it would be public mob and execution exactly the way they killed their relatives
They said that they know where they are and their homes and unless they will no longer come back home .
Continuing the Police Spokesman noted that two wrongs cannot make aright adding that there lawful ways of prosecuting established gunmen rather than share mob action.
“The Command wish to advise President Generals of those Communities to ensure peace in their towns and report funny movements to the nearest police station for action “he said.
Publicity Secretary of Agunechemba Security Squad Mr Nweke Nweke in the same vain discouraged them from taking what he called unlawful acts that may lead to a break down of law and order.
“I advise them not to carry out their threats because they are not the statutory body to carry out prosecution and we have the gazetted body and relevant agencies to do that ”
“Agunechemba Security urges the natives to report any suspected person to the Police which is the body that has the powers to investigate and institute prosecution ” he said.
Reacting to the reported attacks by gunmen at Lilu in Ihiala local government area Nweke announced that security formations are being drafted at the boundaries of Anambra and Imo state to battle the suspected gunmen.
“They come from neighboring state to perpetrate their crimes and after that they go back but we wish to assure the public that we are battle ready for them ”
“We have put in place necessary security architecture to stem the activities of these miscreants ” he noted.
