Protests erupted in Jos, the Plateau State capital Monday morning against the continued killings of indigenous inhabitants by gunmen suspected to be Fulani militants.

The demonstrations, coordinated by Christian leaders including the state chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev. Polycarp Lubo, began at the Fawvwei Junction community road, generating heavy traffic and leaving commuters stranded.

The new demonstration coincides with an increase in violent attacks by gunmen in several communities, with over 100 persons slain in Bokkos and Bassa LGAs in the last two weeks.

“We are not happy over the continuous attacks and killings by gunmen in our communities. That’s why we have come out again to protest these happenings,” said Gyang Dalyop, one of the demonstrators.

Hannatu Philip, another demonstrator, urged the authorities to intervene before the situation escalated.

Protesters holding banners with various inscriptions were spotted moving towards Rayfield Government House calling on security agencies to intervene in the security crisis.
