The Traditional Ruler of Agunese Mmaku, Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, Igwe Maduabuchi Nevobasi (Ezeani III of Mmaku Kingdom), has commended Governor Peter Mbah for his dedication to transforming Enugu into a state that welcomes all.
Igwe Nevobasi, who is also Chairman of Awgu Traditional Rulers Council, gave the commendation on Tuesday when executive members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Enugu State Council, paid him a courtesy visit at his residence in Enugu.
The royal father, popularly known as Omeluenyi of Agunese, described Governor Mbah as a “political transformer,” stressing that his second term in office was essential for the state’s continued progress. He assured that the traditional institution would support Mbah’s re-election bid in 2027.
“I welcome you all to my palace. I must commend you for the good work you’re doing. Journalism is not an easy job because the public looks to you for information. We will try our best to intervene on the needs of NUJ, Enugu State, to match other nearby councils.
“So, try as well as possible to report the good work that Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah is doing in Enugu State. He is leaving no stone unturned. All the sectors are receiving maximum attention by the governor.
“Mbah is doing well and deserves another chance. The traditional institution will give him maximum support to ensure his re-election come 2027,” Igwe Nevobasi stated.
In his remarks, the Igwe-elect of Mburubu Kingdom, Chief Jerry Onuakaibe, also praised Mbah as a model leader with bold plans to shift Enugu from a consuming to a producing economy—an ambition he described as unprecedented.
He noted that the governor’s leadership was transforming Enugu into a world-class city ideal for investment, business, tourism, and living. Chief Onuakaibe further disclosed plans to visit the NUJ council for an inspection to identify urgent needs, with the aim of positioning Enugu as the South East’s hub.
Earlier, Comrade Obinna Ogbuka, Chairman of NUJ Enugu State Council, expressed concern over the condition of the union’s secretariat, noting that nearby structures posed threats to its integrity. He lauded Governor Mbah’s development efforts and called on traditional rulers to support his re-election bid in 2027.
According to Ogbuka, the visit was for familiarisation and to restore the union’s prominence while promoting professionalism and objectivity in journalism.
