
Eighteen Schools in Enugu State have benefitted from the first phase of the fire safety training workshop for staff and students of secondary schools in the state.
Fire extinguishers were also installed in all the schools during the exercise which is a collaboration between the Post Primary Schools Management Board (PPSMB) and the State Fire Service.
Addressing newsmen during the installation and

training exercises at St. Theresa’s College Nsukka, Community Secondary School Lejja, and Girls High School Okpu Orba, the State Chief Fire Officer, Engr. Okwudiri Ohaa, said that the second phase will commence soon.
He stressed that “the process will continue until we cover all the schools in every nook and cranny of the state”.

Engr. Ohaa revealed that New Layout Secondary School Enugu; Community Secondary School Amokwe, Udi LGA; St. Paul’s Secondary School Eke, Udi LGA; Girls High School, Nenwe, Aninri LGA; Community Secondary School Ohofia Oduma, Aninri LGA; Government Secondary School, GRA, Enugu and Community Secondary School Mpu, Aniniri LGA, have been covered.
He added that Idaw River Girls Secondary School, Enugu; Community Secondary School Obe, Nkanu West LGA; Community Secondary School, Umueze Awkunanaw; Community Secondary School Akpugo, Nkanu West LGA; New Day Secondary School, Enugu; Community Secondary School Isi-Enu and Model Secondary School Nsukka, were also beneficiaries in the first phase of the programme.
The Chief Fire Officer, who applauded Gov. Ugwuanyi’s steadfastness towards the full actualization of his administration’s zero fire outbreak campaign, maintained that “the governor is winning the war against fire outbreak as he is on target to cover all the 294 Secondary Schools in the state”.
Engr. Ohaa pointed out that prior to the present administration of Gov. Ugwuanyi, the Enugu State Fire Service was in a sorry state, stressing that the governor’s huge investment in the establishment has transformed it positively for the safety of lives and property in the state.
Also Speaking on the exercise, Permanent Secretary of the PPSMB Enugu Evangelist Dr. Favour Ugwuanyi, (mni) thanked the Governor for his unrelenting efforts in ensuring safety of lives and property in the state.
She noted that the vision of the Governor to extend fire prevention enlightenment campaign to schools was unprecedented and a great step towards safeguarding the lives and property of students and staff of educational institutions in Enugu State, stressing: “Since I was born I had never been a party to where the issue of fire prevention was being taught”.

The PPSMB Permanent Secretary revealed that 294 secondary schools will benefit from the training, pointing out that the Governor’s transformation agenda in the fire sector has reduced the negative effects of fire outbreak to the barest minimum in the state.
She therefore charged the staff and students of the benefiting schools to be resourceful and apply the knowledge acquired in the event of any fire outbreak or emergency.
It would be recalled that Gov. Ugwuanyi in furtherance of his administration’s concerted efforts towards safety of lives and property in Enugu State, approved the installation of fire extinguishers in primary and secondary schools in the state.
The governor equally approved training workshops for students and staff of schools in the state, which was flagged off a fortnight ago at the Post Primary Schools Management Board (PPSMB) and College of Immaculate Conception (CIC), Enugu.
