46 petitions: Ebonyi Assembly investigating allegations against Commissioner

Ebonyi State House of Assembly has commenced inquiry into allegations levelled against the Commissioner for Abakaliki Capital City Development Barr Onyekachi Nwebonyi.

An adhoc committee set up by the Assembly says it has received over 46 petitions against the Commissioner.

The petitioners allege that their buildings, fences, vehicles and food stuffs were destroyed by the task force of the ministry led by the commissioner.

The Chairman of the committee Hon Mrs Lilian Chinwe Nwachukwu told journalist that the investigation is in progress to ascertain the truth of the matter.

Out of over 46 Petitions submitted to the committee by the people four of them were presented by their lawyer’s while others presented their cases on their own.

The petitioners include Mr Michael Ituma, Okonkwo Ikechukwu, Nwankwo Elijah, Chinyere Azi, Mrs Ilochi Christiana, Helen Ukor Idam,Richeal Alo, Chukwuma Igwe among others.

Meanwhile the Committee has visited some of the affected sites to ascertain the veracity of the claims.

Addressing the complainants Chairman of the Committee enjoined them to remain peaceful as Government is looking into their complaint.

Hon Nwachukwu who represents Ohaozara East Constituency assured that the committee would be objective and appealed to the people to be patient with the committee.

Other members of the Ad-hoc Committee include Hon Victor Aleke, Hon Moses Ije Odunwa, Hon Mrs Franca Okpo, Hon Onu Nwonye, Hon Chinedu Onah, Hon Nkemka Okoro Onuma
