…Vows To Clampdown On Perpetrators

The Chairman, Afikpo Local Government Area, of Ebonyi State Mr. Timothy Nwachi has ordered security agencies in the area to immediately arrest and prosecute a suspected human trafficker in the local government to serve as a deterrent to others who engage in the illegal business.
The Council Boss owed to clampdown on all those involved in the illegal business of trafficking young girls of Afikpo origin from Afikpo to Ghana and other countries of the world.
The Council Boss gave the directive at the Council Headquarters when he received 2 Girls from the local government who were recently intercepted on their way to Ghana.
Mr. Nwachi who commended the Afikpo Welfare Association ATWA for rescuing the two girls and successful returning them home said that the good gesture was achieved because of the incorporation of the different town Union association to the Wife of the Governor’s pet project.
“The Welfare Association was able to achieve this because the Wife of the Governor, Mrs. Uzoamaka Nwifuru integrated the Town Unions into government and directed ATWA Lagos Branch to exercise full authority over the issue until the girls are brought back home.
He charged parents to always run a background check on anyone who intends to help their children adding that parents should be seriously committed in the business of raising their children well, rather than using them as tools for money-making.
He noted that ordinarily the girls were supposed to be in school but they were presented with a deceptive and enticing promises and advised the youths to focus on their education Instead Of thinking of how to make quick money especially this period when most of the upcoming youths want to make it in life through shortcuts.
He appreciated the DSS and other security agencies for the significant roles they played towards ensuring that the girls were rescued and brought back to Afikpo.
“It is not good for Afikpo to be known for Human trafficking and my administration will not spare anyone behind such within the Local Government irrespective of his social status. Let me assure the people of our commitment to tracking these criminal down.
The President of Afikpo Town Welfare Association (ATWA) Lagos Branch, Chief Ogbonnaya Chima, said that the girls were rescued while being taken to Ghana adding that there is an already an existing link in Afikpo for such a distasteful business.
It was gathered that the suspect who was said to have masterminded the act has been arrested by the security agencies.
