Cash prizes were won by outstanding students as Organization for Women and Science for the Developing World (OWSD) marked this year’s international Day of Women and Girls in Science in the South East.
The event which was held at Anglican Girls Grammar School Enugu on the I6th of February 2024 sensitized the female students on the need to embrace science.
Among prizes won were the best SS2 and SS3 students in chemistry, biology, physics, and mathematics, as well as the best JS3 student in basic science.
Zonal Coordinator Prof. Mrs. Uchenna Estella Odoh who led the team on the visit said it was targeted at boosting the interest of the students in science and academic excellence.
She noted that the visit was part of activities lined up to mark the 2024 international Day of Women and Girls in Science, in the South East Zone.
A paper on the theme of this year’s celebration – Women and Girls in Science Leadership: A New Era for Sustainability – was delivered by Dr. Modesta Ezema.
Other members spoke on different science career paths and their benefits in order to sensitize and encourage their interest in science.
There were also talks on health, hard work, and morals.
Speaking at the occasion, the principal of the school, Dr. Mrs. Juliet Nnamani thanked the organization for the choice of her school, the mentorship and the cash prizes and looked forward to similar visits in the future.
