A former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, Dr. Ben Nwoye, has decried what he termed as willful blindness by the national chairman if the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu on the crisis rocking the state chapter of the party.
Nwoye, who was responding to the statement credited to the state chairman of the party, Chief Ugochukwu Agballah to the effect that the Tinubu/Shettima Grassroots Independent Campaign Council has been banned in Enugu State, said despite a retinue of petitions by major stakeholders of the party in the state, the national leadership of the party seemed not bothered about the drastic decline in fortunes of the party in the state.
He said the purported ban had placed Agballah as an existential threat to the success of Tinubu/Shettima campaign ticket in Enugu State.
“The pronouncement by Ugochukwu Agballah that the Tinubu/Shettima Grassroots Independent Campaign Council has been banned by him has placed Agballah as an existential threat to the success of Tinubu/Shettima campaign ticket in Enugu State.
“The Grassroots Independent Campaign Council was personally formed by our presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to compliment the APC national presidential campaign council which is the one that was put together by the party. Both units work hand in hand to ensure the success of our dear presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“Unfortunately, Enugu has come to be a state where Agballah and those who put him there never wanted our candidate to succeed.
“The question is, how does disbandment of Tinubu/Shettima Grassroots Independent Campaign Council benefit Agballah and APC? I tell you that Agballah is working for the opposition.
“How else can one explain this if not the manner Agballah and his governorship candidate, Uche Nnaji are going about mounting posters and billboards without the face of Tinubu?”, Nwoye said.
“He inherited over 165,000 members of the APC but has now dismembered the party in Enugu State.
“You may ask, why is the national leadership of the APC not acting despite the petitions to them? The party has decided to maintain willful blindness and deafness in the face of the crisis happening in Enugu APC
“Abdullahi Adamu is watching as his former colleague, Sullivan Chime, former Senate president, Senator Ken Nnamani, the current minister of foreign affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama among other leaders are being insulted repeatedly by this same Agballah.
“Why is Adamu foot dragging and allowing this same Agballah to run Enugu State APC aground? Why would Adamu receive several petitions from these men and still did not find it important to look into the matter?
“Before he emerged as the national chairman of the APC, this same Senator Adamu was the chairman of the APC reconciliation committee with Sullivan Chime as secretary. He has a report by his own committee that congress was not conducted in Enugu State.
“Could it be that those working at the national leadership of the party do not want the success of our presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Enugu State? And this is my belief”, he said.
He also called on security agencies in the state to keep an eye on the party chairman, as “Our intelligence report has shown that Agballah has again, hired thugs to invade and attack anybody gathering in the name of Tinubu’s ICC in Enugu State. We’re afraid, Agballah may go ahead to turn Enugu to Imo State.
