ENSIEC boss, Ogwuche, Chief Ekete, others bag NBA merit award

The Nsukka branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Enugu State has honoured Dr. Michael Ajogwu, the Chairman of Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), Chief Donald Ekete, MD/CEO Eketeson Resources International Limited, Chief Onydikachi Attath Ogwuche among others with merit awards for their contributions to  human capital development in the state.

Chief Onyedikachi Attah, an icon in real estate, hospitality and enterprenur singlehandedly built St. Peters Catholic church Umuonu Umuida, St. Christopher Catholic church Ogene Umu-onu Umuida and bankrolled hospital bills for micro and major health challenge cases in the area.

He renovated Ogene primary school and donated 500 KVA transformer to the community. He has awarded and still awarding scholarships to indigent students.
He has at various times distributed motorcycles to youths among others.

Other awardess includs, HRH Igwe Maduabuchi Nevobasi, Chairman Agwu LGA Council of Traditional Rulers, among others.

The award held  at Princess Alexandria auditorium (PAA) University of Nigeria,  during the Law Dinner and award ceremony of the NBA Nsukka branch as part of activities marking the association’s 2022 Law Week, with the theme; “Transformational Governance the Role of Lawyers.”

Mr. Ugo Ukwueze, Chairman of the NBA Nsukka branch in his opening remark said that law week was an annual ritual lawyers use to reflect and reassess the journey so far over the year and chart a new course for the coming year.

According to him, “law week is an age-long tradition in the legal community and its importance is rated in our collective consciousness.

“It is a period of reflection on our sacred duties, first as ministers in the temple of Justice and integrally a major actor in the theatre of national and global development.

“It is also a season of interrogating societal ills and status quo that wouldn’t guarantee free access to enjoy liberty’s declared inalienable to our common humanity, as well as a platform for celebrating our industry and mileage in nation-building,” he said.

NBA Nsukka branch chairman, said  that the awardees were carefully selected because of their contributions to the development of Enugu state, humanity, and society in general.

“The awardees today become the ‘friend of the bar,’ they were carefully selected for the merit award because they are distinguished in the various fields of endeavours and they have contributed immensely to the development of Enugu state, humanity, and the society in general,” he said.

While Ajogwu, Igwe Nevobasi, Chief Attah and others made huge monetary donations to the association, Chief Ekete announced that he will landscape and asphalt the entire premises of Nsukka High Court.

The award recipients in their separate remarks expressed appreciation to the NBA Nsukka for the honour done to them promising that they will continue to contribute their quotas in the development of the state, humanity, and society in general.
