Less than a month a woman was stripped naked in Enugu for harvesting snails from a village shrine, another has been flogged and beaten up in Ogbete Market Enugu.
EverydayNewsngr.net investigations reveal that the assualt on traders especially women is a new introduction since the appointment of a Caretaker Chairman, Stephen Aniagu.
Aniagu has reportedly set the market closing time at 6:30 unleashing market thugs on traders who violate the rules.
Most of the victims have been afraid to speak out for fear of further punishment by the market leadership.
However, the recent assault on a woman trader (names witheld) has led to public outcry and condemnation.
Most traders who prefer to remain anonymous called for Government intervention to save them from the wicked trend and inhuman treatment especially against women.
“Yes we have to speak out because it’s getting out of hand. It was a pathetic sight to see these thugs descend on the woman. She was flogged mercilessly in front of her children who were helpless.
“Her husband was also present, yet they decided to humiliate this family instead of pronouncing a fine against them.
“The situation in Ogbete now is critical and something ought to be done and fast because it’s not everyone that can swallow such dehumanizing treatment.”
