Top Enugu politician and stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Pastor Sam Iyiogwe has said that his party should have considered Mr. Peter Obi for the party’s presidential ticket.
In an exclusive chat with EverydayNewsngr.net Iyiogwe, a former Local Government Chairman noted that the current crisis in the party would have been avoided if zoning was maintained.
Hear him: “That is what am saying. Someone like Peter Obi should have been considered from the South East, from the beginning. Though Wike was interested, our leaders could have pacified him and made him to see good reasons why it should be someone from the South East. Am sure that he would have listened to them. Instead they manipulated it and took it to the North. Peter Obi saw it ahead of time and left the party.
“Peter Obi is a credible man and all he is saying about Nigeria is the truth. All he said about faulty leadership and huge wastage in our governance are all true.
“The youths all over Nigeria are now saying that they want Peter Obi, let’s see if it can be demonstrated during the elections. Peter is telling us the truth and is saying this is how he is going to solve the problems of Nigeria. It’s left for Nigerians to demonstrate it during election.
“The youths say they want to take back Nigeria from the groups that have failed them. Let us see if they can do it. Nigeria is a country where failures are promoted and celebrated. Nobody will tell you that he is happy with what is happening in Nigeria, nobody. Even if you meet any of the governors now or people in the National Assembly personally, he is confused as well. Nobody is happy. If you meet Mr. President, he is not happy; even when everyone is blaming him.
“There is problem everywhere because we allowed our country to be messed up, scattered and destroyed simply because of greed and selfishness. Everything in our nation is centered on money by every means. No more good names nor integrity, or merits but failures are promoted in the name of my people, my brother, my old friends and my religious brothers.
“I was in Nigeria Custom Service, and I worked with Hausa/fulani, I worked with Yorubas, I also worked with different tribes and we all related as brothers. I can say that in my career in the Custom Service, the people that assisted me most were Hausa/Fulani and Yoruba/Akwa Ibom and Cross Rivers people. In the business after early retirement to pursue my dreams, people of different tribes have helped me.
“Unfortunately, today we see ourselves as enemies. Our leaders created these problems because the masses are blind. Nigeria has more than enough to make everyone happy yet people are suffering.
“I was once a local government Chairman, wake me up at anytime I can mention the things we did to touch lives. As a Council Chairman we Constructed about 168 box culverts; 12 bridges across Nkanu East and did ashphalt road. We were paying over 1,500 people allowances to empower them economically. We trained them to start businesses. They are verifiable. People see governance as opportunity to cart money away and go.
“It is better for us now to put Nigeria in order, if not, the repercussion will be disastrous tomorrow. The EndSars, COVID-19 have come and gone but we have gone back to our normal ways in governance and I don’t care atitudes about the needs of the masses by the leaders. How do we explain the situation that Universities have been closed for seven months now?”
