The Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal has ordered the immediate closure of the Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto after a Christian student, Ms. Deborah was killed Thursday.
The immediate closure was after a social media blitz of the graphic murder of Deborah and the burning of her body by fellow students on the college campus spread.
In a video circulating on social media, some students were recorded boasting and happy that they killed her. One even admitted to bringing the match and igniting it to set Ms. Deborah on fire alive.
The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Galadanci announced that the governor directed an immediate investigation into the murder and submission of the findings to him.
Also, the Sultanate Council of Sokoto, the headquarters of the Islamic religion in Nigeria condemned the killing and ordered that the police should fish out all the people involved for adequate action.
Sources affirm that what led to the bloodshed was a voice post by the slain student complaining of what she deemed unnecessary posts on the class Whatsapp group.
The source noted that the group is created for only issues about the class academic concerns and she complained that the contents posted there by the members were at variance with the objective mostly on religion.
