Member of the Enugu State House of Assembly Hon Johnson Chukwuobasi has been dragged to the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, ICPC, for alleged fraud.
Chukwuobasi who represents Awgu South State Constituency in the Assembly is accused of diverting N24m meant for the rehabilitation of the Mmaku Cottage Hospital.
In a petition made available to EverydayNewsngr.net and signed by a Community leader, Ogbuefi Franis Uzonu (Ochiagha Mmaku-Agbor) the Lawmaker was accused of opening a Community bank account without the knowledge of anyone, “submitted same to Government House and claimed the money.
“When the people got an idea of what transpired, Johnson Chukwuobasi was confronted , the bank was written and a report sent to the State Government, yet he went ahead to misappropriate the entire fund.”
In another petition to the Enugu Governor, the Presidents General and traditional rulers of the three autonomous Communities of Mmaku, alleged that the lawmaker and two others went behind to open an account with who they collected the Community money.
In the petition titled ‘Report of attempt to misappropriate N24m grant to Mmaku Community’, the leaders recalled that during their visit on December 13, 2020, the governor requested for an account where Government can pay in the N24m for the community project.
The project is the renovation nad upgrade of the Mmaku Cottage Hospital at Ajaba, Ezioha-Mmaku.
Since Mmaku did not have a central Account the leaders directed that any account must be driven by the three President’s General and the recorgnized traditional rulers in Mmaku.
“The directive nothwitstanding , some individuals without the knowledge or approval of the PG’s and traditional rulers opened Account Number 5700041332 with Fidelity Bank Agbani Road in the name of Mmaku and with themselves and their confederates sa signatories.
“The Account was supplied to the Enugu state Government wherein the sum of N24m was paid in.
‘”As we write this ketter, those who opened the said account are yet to inform the leadership of any of the three Autonomous Communities of the existence of this account or that the money has been lodged into the account.
“Our contention is that none of the signatories including Hon Chukwuobasi is is a member of the executive of any of the three Autonomous Communities in Mmaku. And the Lawmaker cannot impose himself as a signatory to the account.”
The petition by the Communities was signed by Sir Laz Udeogboke-PG, Agunese, Eddy Ilechukwu-PG Mmaku Ugwu Community and Dr. Magnus Ugwa Caretaker Chairman Mmaku Agbo Community.
Others are HRH Igwe CM Nevobasi, Omeluenyi 1 of Agunese, HRH Igwe Orji C Orji of Ugwu Community and HRH Igwe Emma Okongwu of Agbo Community.
