It is no longer news that all eyes are on ENUGU-EAST Senatorial District to produce the next Governor of Enugu State come 2023, after the exit of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Gburugburu).
It is also noteworthy that NKANU-EAST Local Government Area is the only Local Government Area that is yet to produce either a Governor or a Senator. This makes it imperative that NKANU-EAST be allowed to produce the next Governor for reasons of equity, fairness and justice.
Even Governor Ugwuanyi has maintained that in choosing his successor, equity and justice would be factored in as the deciding factors.
This stance should be instructive to all those from Nkanu-west and even Enugu-west Senatorial District who are jostling for Governorship in 2023.
These elements should know that” might can never be always right”.It does not matter how rich, powerful or connected they are, the truth is that their ambitions are vexatious and capable of upsetting the peace Enugu has been enjoying.
For anybody from Nkanu-west who is parading himself as a Governorship hopeful, my advice is that such a person applies caution in order not to destroy Nkanu solidarity and fraternity.
As brothers, NKANU-EAST and Nkanu-west must sit down and talk and present a common front towards 2023. Anything other than this, would portray us as unserious, greedy, not united and unprepared.
The current Senator representing ENUGU-EAST, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani is from Nkanu-west. Apart from being a two-time Senator, he has also been a two-time Governor.
The people of NKANU-EAST have accepted this because Nkanu-west people are our brothers and sisters. Our unity should be more important than the attractions of political positions.
I believe that the whole of NKANULAND is one irrespective of whether you are in NKANU-EAST or Nkanu-west.
Nkanu-west ought to work in unison with NKANU-EAST to get the Governorship for NKANU-EAST this time around.
Enugu State has a CHARTER OF EQUITY which should never be violated. Those who have tasted the Governorship, should allow others who have not, to also take a bite. This will further unity, cohesion and equity in Enugu State.
A word is enough for the wise.
