Prominent Enugu Lawyer and politician Barr. OAU Onyema has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for Peter Obi’s Labour Party.
Onyema was recently admitted into the party and handed over the membership card in his Obioma ward, Udi Local Government Area.
Declaring allegiance to the party Barr. Onyema said, henceforth, call me whenever there is need. I will do for Labour Party what I have done for PDP for 24 years.
He said; “Today I bear a new identity. Sometimes ago I pronounced that I have decided to look for my brother’s in Labour party and to make new friends. It’s a manifestation of a well thought idea. I want to be branded, I want to be known, henceforth, as a member of Labour Party.
“I want to associate with ideology. I want to associate with progressiveness. I want to associate with people with focus; people with little gluttony. I want to associate with people with contentment, people who know that what we need to do to change the country, or make the country great is not by mortgaging the future of our children by simple compromise…
“I have identified LP as one that has come to be. A party that in a single strike collected 15 seats in the State Assembly, collected two Senate Seats out of three..collected seven House of Reps position out of eight.
“The Leader of Labour Party is God and He we will follow. Personally, I believe in God. I trust in God and nothing more.
“My aspirations are guided by the Almighty who created me; that has designed me, that knows the me that is in me, that makes me.”
Onyema a successful lawyer based in Enugu has been a strong member of the PDP and has contested the Senate position in Enugu West where he comes from.
He filed the controversial suit seeking a court order to replace Senator Ike Ekweremadu from the Senate in the wake of the former Deputy Senate President’s travails in the UK.
