Ebonyi State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has dismissed reports that worker were being flogged in the State.

In a statement signed by the State Chairman and Secretary, Comrade Leonard I. Nkah and Comrade Chukwuma Onwe respectively, the NLC said it has not received any such report.

They accused desperate politicians in the state of using impostors to misinform the public.

“Our attention has been drawn to a statement credited to one Mr. Ikechukwu Nwafor, where he claimed to speak for Ebonyi State Council of NLC as her Chairman, this claim is totally false, misleading and mischievous.

“Ordinarily we wouldn’t have joined issues with him, if he had not impersonated and arrogated to himself a position that wasn’t his. Therefore we strongly condemn this criminal act of impersonation and Congress may take further actions if he fails to retrace his steps and put a stop to this his “guerilla tactics”.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Mr. Ikechukwu Nwafor is not the Chairman of NLC Ebonyi State and lacks the moral and legal rights to write or sign documents for or on behalf of the congress as he was impeached as chairman of Council in 2017 by State Executive Council (SEC) of NLC and his Vice Chairman was endorsed to act on that capacity to finish up his almost wrapped up first tenure.

“That on the conclusion of the said tenure, election was duly conducted on 25th April 2019, where 21 affiliate unions out of 25 were in full attendance where Leo Nkah meritoriously won the election resoundingly as the new Chairman of NLC Ebonyi State Council.

“That NLC Ebonyi State has enjoyed cordial relationships overtimes as Government has not reneged in consulting Labour in matters relating to workers whenever the need arose.

“Let it be on record that we are not aware that any civil servant was flogged as we have not received any information or report from any civil servant on the alleged flogging of a civil servant whether at the Government House or State International Airport as being circulated in media platforms

“That we have set machinery in motion to unveil the true picture of the incident as there are so many versions of the narrative which we believe are peddled to serve personal interests.

“We assure our esteemed workers that we are on course in getting the authentic information on the alleged flogging of Civil Servants and engage necessary authority to achieve this.

“In conclusion, we call on all to disregard any publication or information emanating from a self acclaimed leader and desparate impostor as such may be dangerous and counterproductive in carrying out our job of protecting, defending and representing the interest of Ebonyi State.

“NLC Ebonyi State remains focused, formidable and unshakeable under the authentic leadership of Comrade Leo Nkah.”
