Against reports that the allocations meant for the twenty one local government areas of Anambra state have been withheld by the federal government, the Commissioner for local government and Town Union Affairs Chief Tony Collins Nwabunwanne has stated that it is not true.
This is coming less than forty eight hours after the federal government set up a committee to ensure the autonomy of the local government areas across the country which had as part of it’s terms of reference to implement the judgement of the Supreme Court on the independence of the Council areas of Nigeria.
Nwabunwanne who dismissed the report contended that the local government allocations of Anambra state is in tact adding that it was never withheld by the federal government.
“The local government areas have received their allocations up till date and there was never a time the Anambra local government allocations were withheld by the federal government”
“Whoever that is saying that is only trying to mislead the general public and we wish to state that the report is the machinations of some paid agents whose interest is to overheat the polity “
“We as a government are law abiding and believes in the development of the local government areas of Anambra state “
“For some people to go to town with the report that our local government allocations have been stopped are trying to set the state and the public on war path and the Anambra state government would not take kindly to such activities of fifth columnists ” he said.
Nwabunwanne future contended that “we conducted local government election which remains the free , fair , credible and transparent and that has given powers and credibility to our local government hence the issue of holding the allocations of the twenty one local government areas is neither here nor there “
“The Gov Soludo administration has been working harmoniesly with the twenty one local government areas in the provision of basic infrastructures and we cannot be cowed by the inglorious roles of the opposition parties who have lost their deposits in the political field ” he said.
