By Staff Reporter
The Enugu East Local Government Council has taken a major step toward urban and economic development with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ibagwa Nike Autonomous Community for the development of Iyioku City, formerly known as Freedom City Layout.
The landmark agreement, signed on Tuesday in Enugu, establishes a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework aimed at transforming the area into a modern urban hub. The project will feature the construction of Okwe Market, residential estates, and other critical infrastructure designed to attract investors and boost economic activities within Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Chairman of Enugu East Local Government Council, Engr. Pst. Beloved-Dan Obi Anike, described the initiative as a bold move aligned with the development vision of the state government. He expressed appreciation to Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for providing an enabling environment that supports grassroots development and public-private collaborations.
Representatives of prospective investors, including professional and institutional bodies such as the Medical Doctors Association, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and COPEN, hailed the partnership as a “dream come true,” describing Iyioku City as a promising destination for sustainable investment.
The Iyioku City development is expected to serve as a catalyst for economic growth, urban renewal, and increased internally generated revenue for Enugu East LGA, reinforcing the council’s commitment to inclusive development and community-driven progress.
