2 women arrested in Ebonyi with new born babies concealed in nylon sack

Men of the Ebonyi State EbubeAgu Security Network in a combined effort with community vigilante group have arrested two
suspected child traffickers at the Abaomege axis of Onicha Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects, (one Achibong from Akwa Ibom State and one Blessing Akpan from Cross River state it was learnt have succeded in beating security checkpoints while taking the child to Cross River state before luck luck ran out of them at the Abaomege community in Onicha LGA.

The security men (Ebubeagu) were on stop and search at the border between Ebonyi state and Crossriver.

It was also gathered that luck ran out of the suspects when the securitymen insisted on checking the vehicle in which they were conveying the baby.

On searching the vehicle, it was discovered that the one week old baby was wrapped in baby’s cloth and concealed in a sack belonging to one of the suspect.

On further search, another baby of about two weeks was also seen in another sack belonging to the second suspect who happens to be a pregnant woman.

The office of the wife of the Governor of the state, Mrs Rachel Ogonna Umahi when contacted on the development instructed that the babies be taken to the intensive care unit (ICU) of Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki for adequate care until further information about the babies are established.

The chairman of Onicha LGA, Engr. Felix Ogbonna Igboke who confirmed the incident thanked the Ebubeagu security network and the community villiglante for a job well done and charged every community leader(s) to be vigilant as security is the job of everyone.

The suspects are already in police custody for further investigation.
