The Acting Commissioner for Health Ebonyi State, Dr. Sabinus Nwibo has summoned 11 health Workers in Ebonyi North Senatorial zone who were absent from their duty post during an unscheduled visit of the Ministry to the different General hospitals and Primary Healthcare Facilities in the zone.
Those summoned includes Officers in-charge, OICs, their Assistants and other routine staff of Ngbo Court Maternity, Ekwashi Primary Health Centre and Ezzamgbo Maternity Health Centre.
The Acting Commissioner expressed the regret that at the primary healthcare centers, the workers were not found on duty and ordered them to report to the Ministry on Monday 23-12-2024 for explanation and possible disciplinary actions.
“Following our routine visits to the General Hospitals and Primary Healthcare Centers in the State to inspect the facility and note their challenges, it was observed that some IOCs and other staff were absent from their duty post. We have directed that, they come to the Ministry for questioning to ascertain their reasons for absconding from duty.
“Failure to do that, the Ministry will take commensurate and decisive actions against them to serve as deterrent to others. It is unfortunate that despite several warnings through radio jingles and electronic media, the people are still not taking their duties seriously. We will not continue to tolerate decadence from anyone.
The Acting Commissioner noted that he has taken note of the challenges confronting some of the healthcare centers and assured that he will swing into action immediately to resuscitate the dilapidated part of the building identified and communicate the appropriate quarters to come to their aid.
Earlier, the Medical Superintendent, Ezzamgbo General Hospital, Dr Chidi Eze appealed to the State Government to assist them in fixing running water in the premises as they currently lack adequate water supply.
He commended the Acting Commissioner for coming to ascertain the true state of affairs at the general hospitals and Primary healthcare centers.
