Ahead Saturday’s governorship and house of assembly election in Enugu State, the Obi-Datti Coalition in the state has disowned the Convener of the 40 Million Ballots Movement, Comrade Kennedy Iyere over his endorsement of the state candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Mbah.
This is just as the coalition has said that the ongoing spurious attacks against the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Chijioke Edeoga, will only propel the party to victory on March 18 governorship election.
The coalition, which addressed a press conference in Enugu on Thursday, accused Iyere of embarking on transactional endorsement in Enugu State when the real Obidient movements in the state were busy campaigning for LP and its candidates.
Lead convener of the Obi-Datti Coalition in the state, Dr Chima Edoga, said it was inconceivable for Iyere to come from Edo state to Enugu and embark on paid endorsement in the name of Enugu State Obidients to which he did not belong.
He insisted that Enugu State Obidient movements were self funded and as such had decided to toe the path of their presidential candidate, Peter Obi in electing Chijioke Edeoga as the next governor of Enugu State.
His words: “Enugu, a former capital of the Eastern region, a citadel of learning for many Nigerians, especially of the Igbo extraction, has in recent times, yearned for a rebirth. The years of governance of the state by the PDP has left bitter tastes in the mouths of many residents”.
He disclosed that the more reason why members of the Obi-Datti Coalition in Enugu State were supporting Edeoga was because of the trust Peter Obi has in him to deliver for Enugu State.
“A question worth asking is why did Peter Obi specifically ask Barr Edeoga,.out of many other politicians to join LP and contest to become the governor of Enugu State? What qualities did he see in Edeoga to risk identifying with and supporting him?”, he said.
The Obi-Datti Coalition added that they considered and interrogated the questions and were convinced that Edeoga is the only candidate with the capacity to deliver and the person most suited to lead Enugu State into a new era.
They insisted that the spate of often malicious attack on the person and image of the LP governorship candidate, Edeoga, showed that he is the man to beat.
They therefore urged all Obidient families and Enugu residents of good will to go out on Saturday to vote for Labour Party in the governorship and house of assembly elections.
