Fear and uncertainty over the January 31st deadline set by the Central Bank for return of old naira notes is causing confusion in the Enugu State capital.

Already many traders and POS operators have stopped receiving the old naira notes even as banks in the state cry of scarcity of the new notes.

At the popular Ogbete Main Market Enugu Friday, majority of residents who were at the market to buy commodities with old notes were stranded as traders were not ready to receive it.

The situation thus created avenue for brisk business for the few who has the new notes and those who agree to collect the old naira notes.

For every N5000 transaction N500 is charged for the old notes.

The same goes for POS operators who now charge extra N300 for new notes below N5000.
