Amechi Awkunanaw refutes Communique by purported Group bent on selling Community Lands

AMECHI AWKUNANAW COMMUNITY REFUTAL RE: COMMUNIQUE ISSUED BY THE PEOPLE OF AMECHI-UNO AND AMECHI AWKUNANAW AUTONOMOUS COMMUNITIES FORMERLY KNOWN AS AMAGUGWU AMECHI AWKUNANAW, AFTER HER GENERAL ASSEMBLY MEETING HELD ON 13TH NOVEMBER, 2021

OUR attention has been drawn to the publication titled as above and widely circulated purporting to be speaking for the people of Amechi-Uno and Amechi Awkunanaw Autonomous Communities arising from a general meeting held on the 13th November, 2021. Ordinarily we ought not to reply or join issues with the signatories of the purported communiqué and of the purported general meeting but one great philosopher was apt when he said that to leave an error unrefuted is to encourage intellectual immorality.

We view the purported resolutions as self-serving aimed at massaging the ego of one individual, former Governor, Sen. Jim Nwobodo, who is paying the piper and dictating the tone including their dance steps.

First any General Assembly Meeting of Amechi Awkunanaw Autonomous Community must include the Traditional Ruler, the President General, the Secretary, the Youth leaders, Board of Trustees, including the Onowu, the Traditional Prime Minister who holds forth in the absence of the Traditional Ruler e.t.c. Regrettably none of the persons mentioned and whose names appeared as signatories representing Amechi Autonomous Community is holding any office in Amechi Awkunanaw Autonomous Community assigned to them in the communiqué.

Secondly, the land previously housing Jupiter Press ltd, publisher of Satellite newspaper was not donated to Chief Jim Nwobodo as alleged. The land in issue was not owned generally by old Amechi Community as alleged but by Umungeneike subfamily of old Amagu Ugwu of which Amechi Uno is not part of. Umungenike subfamily or community is now what remains as Amechi Autonomous Community. It is elementary that nobody can give what he does not have. Nemo dat quod non habet.

The land covered by the judgment of the supreme Court in favour of Umungeneike Amechi Awkunanaw in suit No. SC 235/66 against Amagu-Ibite Akegbe started from AYO River to Nyaba River and it is owned exclusively by Umungeneike Amagugwu Amechi Awkunanaw. This is the sole reason neither Amechi-Uno nor Amechi Uwani Autonomous Communities created out of or carved out of the old Amechi Awkunanaw Community is laying claim to any part or parcel of land in-between Ayo and Nyaba Rivers along old Agbani Road, Enugu.

The Judgment of the Supreme Court in SC235/66 delivered on the 2nd June 1972 was before the creation of the two Autonomous Communities

Again, Sen. Jim Nwobodo as a sitting Governor of old Anambra State in 1981 cannot receive any piece or parcel of land from any community in breach of Uberime fidei, code of conduct and Oath of office. As at 1981, when the land was allowed Jupiter Press ltd, Chief Jim Nwobodo was also not a director of Jupiter press ltd which his Oath of Office as a sitting Governor of old Anambra State also forbid. Chief Jim Nwobodo was admitted as a director in Jupiter Press in 1988 after he was released from prison.

It is the realization and recognition of the fact that as a sitting Governor in 1981, that Chief Jim Nwobodo cannot in breach of Oath of office and code of conduct which requires any sitting Governor to resign or relinquish his membership or directorship of a company that made his trumpeters to cook a purported instrument of land gift to Chief Jim Nwobodo in 1981, a document that surfaced in 2020. This will be addressed at the appropriate time. The person who received the land from Umungeneike as a director of Jupiter Press ltd for employment of Awkunanaw Youths is the same person they are harassing and intimidating including instigating his suspension to change the obvious truth. It is common knowledge that when Jupiter Press ltd became desolate and defunct the land should revert back to the original land owners-Umungeneike (Amechi Autonomous Community) to the exclusion of any other. It should be known that a similar land matter was amicably resolved by Awkunanaw leaders of thought at ATTAKWU Awkunanaw, Akegbe Ugwu but Chief Nwobodo choose to sponsor confusion in a peaceful community with the hope that he will achieve his aim of taking over the said land belonging to Umungeneike by arm twisting the land owners.
The same manufacturers of “Gift of Land” to Chief Jim Nwobodo by the old Amagu Ugwu will soon have their day in court. We gladly advise the imposed persons looking for unmerited relevance to spare the general public of their manufactured falsehoods being peddled in the social Media as it has not yielded them any positive outcome.

What the trumpeters forgot is that the victory of “Akani” land in favour of Umungeneike at the Supreme Court of Nigeria in Suit No. SC235/66 was not for and on behalf of old Amagu Ugwu or old Amechi Awkunanaw Community which include Amechi-Uno and Amechi Uwani Autonomous Community who never contested the land in dispute with anybody.

The people who fought vigorously and got victory at the Supreme Court over the land is Umungeneike (the new Amechi Autonomous Community) No wonder Amechi Uwani failed to join in the so called “Communiqué” Jamboree.

The above signatories to the Communique show the people who are bent on disrupting the peace and harmony hithereto existed in Amechi Awkunanaw in cohorts with HRH Igwe Daniel Ani Nnamani of Amechi Uno and Chief Jim Nwobodo also of Amechi Uno Autonomous Community.

It is not surprising when a Suit was filed over the land by Chief Jim Nwobodo and his Cohorts to have legal title over this land behind the real owners. We expect those claiming donation of land to Chief Jim Nwobodo to come to Court with their evidence since the matter is now in Court. It is the confused and clandestine move scripted in high places to take this land by hook and crook that lead to the suspension of the revered Traditional Ruler of Amechi Awkunanaw, one of the oldest traditional rulers in Nkanu land and Enugu East Senatorial Zone and the problem of the Executive members of Amechi Development Union. Sponsoring confusion, factions and avoidance of dialogue will not truncate the truth.
