Corpse escapes kidnap, burial disrupted as LG boss allegedly attacks mourners in Ebonyi

Local Government chairman of Afikpo South in Ebonyi State Hon. Eni Uduma Chima has been accused of attacking mourners in Ekoli Community in the area.

Mr Elijah Agwu Elijah whose wife was to be buried last Saturday November 20, alleged that the Council Chairman sent thugs to attack them and disrupt the burial.

Narrating his ordeal, Elijah said the hoodlums attempted to take the corpse but failed forcing the ambulance to divert his wife’s corpse to a mortuary in Abriba, Abia State.

“I escaped death by whiskers. My family members were all attacked, mourners who attended burial were also attacked and they destroyed everything. I have never seen a thing like this. Many people were injuted. It was like a scene in the movies.

“Eni Uduma succeeded in scuttling the burial of my wife at Ekoli.”

Not even the four policemen that accompanied Elijah and his children from Owutu Divisional Police Office could save him.

“We had arrived Ekoli for the burial when we were attacked by Eni and his thugs. The police managed to smuggle me and my children out of Ekoli while the corpse of my wife was diverted to a mortuary in Abiriba. “

Elijah told EverydayNews that he had petitioned the police on threat to his life by the Chairman for which both of them were invited to the State Police Headquarters.

When contacted on phone the Council Chairman Eni Uduma denied the allegations.

He, however, confirmed that he had earlier been invited by the Police in Abakaliki over a petition alleging threat to life.

“I was surprised because I have no business with him. I had not even set my eyes on him for years, and he confirmed that at the station.”

The Chairman claimed that the people that disrupted the burial were members of Elijah’s Community who he said have been having a running battle with him (Elijah).

“They are the ones who refused to bury his wife. Because he has not been associating with them. So they told him that the Community is not a burial ground.
