Enugu Community moves to elect new Town Union Executive

Elugwu Akwu Achi Community in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State has set machinery in motion for the election of a new Town Union Executive.

An electoral committee put in place to organize the election held its inaugural meeting Saturday 16th October 2021 at Obu Elugwu Akwu ,the ancestral home of Akwunubi.

They resolved to write the Commissioner for Rural Development to ascertain the chronology of Town Union regimes from 2009 till date as well as the commencement date and termination of current Town Union Executive.

The letter will also request for the
Certified True copies of Elugwu Akwu Achi Town Union constitution and relevant government guidelines for selection of a new Town Union

It will further ask for a copy of registration certificate of Elugwu Akwu Achi Autonomous Community and Inaugural Certificate of the Town Union

The committee nominated its officials to include Ozo Ginger Ibeneme II- CHAIRMAN, Mr Harrison Madubugha – Secretary and Hon Alex Ilogebe- PRO

A statement by Chairman of the Electoral Committee Ozo Ginger Ibeneme II said the meeting requested Umueze quarter to put their claims to the position of Town Union President in writing.

This was sequel to the claim at the meeting by the Umueze Quarter through their Vice Chairman that it was the turn of Umueze to Produce the next President General.

According to them , the maiden President General Mr Justin Chukwujioke was from Umuike, followed by caretaker from Ekwuruofia and later the current PG also from Ekwuruofia.

Committee resolved to reconvene in two weeks or as soon as a response is received from the Ministry of Rural Development
