Bus shelter did not collapse in Enugu – Govt.

The Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority, ECTDA, has refuted as false and fake news a report by one Citizen Onyebuchi Mba that one of the newly constructed bus shelters in the state capital has collapsed.

Mbah had taken to his facebook page to circulate a story that one of the newly constructed bus shelters at Meniru Bus, along Agbani road collapsed recently.

But the Chairman of ECTDA, Dr Josef Onoh in a prompt reaction, on Monday, said that the bus shelter at Meniru, along Agbani road was actually destroyed by a water tanker, whose owner has funded its reconstruction.

Onoh also described as false information by Mba that the bus shelter was constructed with the sum of four million, noting that nothing could be further from truth than that.

According to Onoh, the vehicle accident occurred at about 10:02 pm on June 17 2021 when the water tanker vehicle rammed into the shelter with minimal damage, but since the offender is paying for the damage, the ECTDA demolished it for reconstruction at the cost of the defaulter.

“None of our bus shelters collapsed as being bandied on the social media by the character with name and style, Onyebuchi Mba. It was rather an unfortunate accident involving a water tanker by 10:02pm when it hit our bus shelter and we thank God there was no loss of life and the defaulter has already paid for the reconstruction of the damaged bus stop.

“However, the ECTDA due to safety concerns had to demolish the bus shelter after cordoning it from public use, in order to rebuild it at the expense of the defaulter. The defaulter paid for a new one and so we demolished it ourselves to rebuild,” clarified Onoh.

He said that the agency finds it appalling that Mba went around inciting the public by parading falsehood, and gave Mbah 24 hours to pull down the false information from the social media handle.

“The Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority will not allow somebody to politicize the general good of the people for cheap political gains and failing to retract the false information, the agency will stop at nothing to ensure that Mba is brought to book,” Onoh said.No Enugu bus shelters collapsed —- Enugu govt
