FG awards 17 Km road as COVID-19 package in Enugu community

The Federal Government through the Federal Emergency Management Agency FEMA has awarded 17 kilometer road to Okutu community in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State as part of stimulus COVID-19 intervention package.

Speaking while inspecting the road which started from Ugwuawarawa in Nsukka Urban and terminates at Okutu community, the project engineer, Chinedu Ogidi, said the project was awarded by FEMA while FITS Consulting who are expected to deliver before the rainy season sets in.

Ogidi said that 17 kilometer road project include dual drainage system, concrete base, ashphalt and patching of areas already ashaphted before FEMA awarded stimulus COVID-19 intervention package to Okutu community, adding that the project was federal government efforts to open up rural roads.

He assured that the project would be delivered on or before May, adding with the rate of work about three weeks the project commenced, stating that, “there is every assurance to deliver on time”.

The project engineer expressed gratitude for the cooperation of the community since work commenced fully in the council area.

Earlier while addressing workers, the President General of Okutu autonomous community, Chief Christopher Okeja, said that the road leads to Kogi State and was abandoned for several years while the community embarked tortuous journey for medical attention and evacuation of agricultural produce.

Chief Okeja urged FITS Consulting firm to expediate action on the ongoing project before the rain returns in full.

He thanked FEMA and Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for ensuring that Okutu community benefits from FEMA Stimulus COVID–19 intervention package.

Also speaking Hon. Chidi Obetta Special Assistant to governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi on health matter who hails from the community said that construction of the road was big relief as many has died while seeking medical attention.

Hon. Obetta expressed optimism that the project would be delivered on target, adding that governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi alms of fellowship on roads network, health system management, education resources and human capital development across the three geo political zones of the state speaks volumes of good governance.
